LastPsyOp: Read the Full Brief
Objectives
- Separate who can retrieve the home set if you cannot from who can spend from it now
- State who is outside the home set, including people you love
Lesson
The home set is not a joint household account. It is not shared with family, a roommate, or a partner, and that includes a girlfriend, a boyfriend, or a spouse who wants access “just in case.”
People you love can be pressured, phished, or careless during a breakup. The rule is about structure. It is not a judgment of them.
Keep it private, not secret by default. A private safety fund can be legitimate, but in a marriage hidden accounts can carry legal disclosure duties. Never lie about it, and get advice if safety is the reason.
If someone must be able to reach it when you no longer can, name one checked adult as agent in a durable financial power of attorney and as payable-on-death beneficiary; keep written instructions saying where things are. A note alone gives no legal authority. Do not give anyone joint access in the banking app.
