LastPsyOp: Read the Full Brief
Objectives
- Name the home set and the surface set
- Explain why holding accounts at a dozen banks is the mistake to avoid
Lesson
Good personal finance today is not about having more accounts. It is about two layers of accounts, set up so that a problem in one cannot spread to the other.
The home set is small: one checking account, one savings account, and one credit card. You use it rarely, and only for true personal expenses, such as rent, insurance, and bills in your own name.
It stays at home. Its cards are safer in a bank box than in a wallet, and they do not go out with you.
The surface set is for everyday life, and it travels with you. You can reach it just as easily, but it is a separate pile of money.
If you can, keep it at a different bank. Then a copied card or stolen sign-in details cannot also reach the money for your rent.
Do not collect banks. Ten logins you cannot keep an eye on is not sophistication. Two layers is the whole plan. Every extra account is clutter, and one day it will be the account you forget to freeze.
