Militia. Kansas Militia formed August 30, 1855 — “An Act to organize, discipline and govern the militia of this Territory.” First territorial adjutant general: Hiram J. Strickler, August 31, 1855. The name Kansas National Guard dates from an act of March 7, 1885, not from 1861 statehood.
